Out-Of-State Title Transfers

Attention auto dealers selling vehicles to Pennsylvania residents. We can help your customers complete the registration process. Please contact our office at 412.884.5800 for assistance.

New resident to Pennsylvania?

If you’re a new resident to Pennsylvania, you’ll need to bring:

  1. Out-of-state title. If the vehicle is co-owned, we will need both individuals to appear. If you have a lien on the title, please call our office 412.884.5800 as soon as possible so that we can submit a request to your lienholder to release the title to us. In addition to your contact information, we will need:
    • Name of your lienholder
    • Fax number for your lienholder
    • Loan/lease account number
    • Vehicle Identification Number
  2. Proof that sales tax was paid when you purchased the vehicle. If you have owned the vehicle less than six months, bring your bill of sale. We can include a copy for PennDOT to show that sales tax was paid when you purchased the vehicle.
  3. Current Pennsylvania driver’s license or photo id. You can obtain your identification at any PennDOT service center. Please follow this link to find the closest location.
  4. Current proof of automobile insurance for the vehicle. Bring your current Pennsylvania insurance card for the vehicle that you will be transferring. You can fax a copy ahead of time to 412.884.5801 or email it to maggsagency@gmail.com.
  5. Vehicle or MV1 completed. Bring the vehicle with you. We will verify the VIN number for you on-site. If you cannot bring the vehicle, please follow the instructions on the MV-1 form, Section B.

Transferring a vehicle between business or a business to and individual?

If you’re transferring a vehicle between businesses, or between a business and an individual, you’ll need to bring:

  1. Pennsylvania Title. The current owner of the vehicle, and the purchaser, will need to be present. If the seller will not be present, Section A of the title must be completed and notarized.
  2. Authorization Letter. An authorization letter is needed for any business that is involved in transferring a title. The letter must be on company letterhead and state that the person who will be appearing to transfer the title has authorization to perform that task.
  3. Bill of Sale.
  4. Current Pennsylvania driver’s license or photo id. You can obtain your identification at any PennDOT service center. Please follow this link to find the closest location.
  5. Current proof of automobile insurance. Bring your current Pennsylvania insurance card. You can fax a copy ahead of time to 412.884.5801 or email it to maggsagency@gmail.com.
